ἹҹԨá (2001 - 2005 research themes)

Our research in the period of 2001-2005 focuses on 4 main areas:
  • Database systems in pediatric surgery

    • Database for congenital malformations of the gastrointestinal system

    • Database for pediatric surgical service

  • Pediatric coloproctology
    • Associated anomalies in anorectal malformations

    • Longterm follow-up of pediatric patients with Hirschsprungs disease, comparison of manometric and functional results between Soaves and modified Duhamels pull-through

    • Primary pull-through for Hirschsprungs disease

    • Physiologic study of the neorectum in anorectal malformations

  • Applications of innovative equipment to our service and education

    • Nylon-mesh reinforced silo sac for staged closure of gastroschisis

    • PSU silastic tube with polyester cuff for central venous line in pediatric patients

    • CAI in undergraduate teaching

  • Perioperative care in pediatric surgery

    • Early post-operative feeding in gastrointestinal tract surgery

    • Factors determining red blood cells transfusion in pediatric surgical procedures

  Ἱ躷ҹԨ͹Ҥ FUTURE DIRECTION

Within the year 2020, the unit aims to strengthen its research mission. The unit will position itself to serve the lower southern Thai region as a pediatric surgical research base and data network center. Research activity in the field of pediatric surgery conducted here has the ultimate goal to improve pediatric surgical care in this region. Our strategies include:

  • Strengthening researches in pediatric coloproctology, focusing on physiologic derangement and complications after surgery for anorectal malformations and Hirschsprungs disease, objective studies of pediatric rectoanal physiology and corrective therapies.

  • Initiating the molecular genetic studies in congenital megacolon and pediatric solid tumors.

  • Strengthening the field of endoscopic procedures, such as pediatric ERCP.

  • Developing the field of pediatric laparoscopic surgery to our service.

  • Application of information technology to the service, research and teaching of pediatric surgery

    •  application of CAI and interactive multimedia to the undergraduate education

    •  expansion of the database systems to cover the lower southern Thailand
